Always Ask for Help

I am the Story Director and Editor (shorts and sizzle reels) for the Documentary Always Ask for Help. I work closely with the Producer and Director, Janet Lee, to help her uncover her stories and integrate them into the larger story around Arnie Stewart.

Always Ask for Help is a feature-length documentary currently in late production, moving into post. It explores the true story of Arnie Stewart, a Canadian man who spent most of his life hiding the fact that he couldn’t read, and how his personal transformation into a national literacy advocate inspired thousands to do the same.

Through a blend of original interviews, animation, archival materials, and classroom footage, this film addresses the systemic challenges of adult low literacy and offer a deeply human portrait of resilience.

At its heart, this is not just a documentary about literacy—it’s about shame, perseverance, empathy, and the universal need to be seen. As an educator and Arnie’s longtime collaborator, Janet Lee travelled with him to over 70 schools. His message to students was simple: “Don’t be afraid. Always ask for help.” That message – Arnie’s love letter to struggling learners, now forms the soul of this film.
